Equipment spending grows as the archer moves up in level

1 study · 10 archers measured

The only work on the question is a qualitative study from 2025: interviews with ten young secondary school archers in the Philippines, analysed by theme. Among the resource constraints that emerge is exactly this, in the words of one of the young archers: the higher you go, the more advanced and expensive the equipment you have to buy, and others describe the equipment as expensive in itself. There are no figures, no comparison between levels and no sample that would allow any generalisation: it is a testimony, useful for describing how the matter is experienced rather than for measuring it. How much spending rises, and whether it rises in the same way in recurve, compound and barebow, has not been studied.

Also phrased as: "how much archery costs"; "cost of archery equipment"; "archery is expensive"; "spending on bow and arrows"; "cost of moving up a level"

In practice

Archers are told that archery is cheap to start and gets expensive later, once you move on to carbon arrows, better limbs, a competition sight and stabilisers.
