Publications
The Lab essays published with a DOI, to cite like any scientific work, and the manuals on the way.
Essays
Each essay has a DOI on Zenodo, CERN’s open repository: it is the address to use when citing it, and it always leads to the latest version.
-
When Nobody Won: ties, competitions and seasons in archery
In Olympic recurve archery a set-system match can end five-all, and at that point the rules call for a single arrow to settle it.
-
The set system in archery: the mathematics of who wins
These pages measure a competition rule instead of judging it.
Manuals
Video Analysis for the Archer, coming soon
Fourteen chapters that start with the smartphone you already own and end with a technical database for your club that grows over time. The manual explains how to measure elbow angle, clicker reaction time and postural stability, how to write a report that athletes understand and act on, and how to do all of this remotely.

Who it is for
Written with three types of reader in mind.
-
The competitive archer
Competes at regional or national level and has been stuck on the same scores for a while. Wants to stop "feeling" the shot and start measuring it, to work out on a scientific basis what to change and how to check the result.
-
The coach
Coaches archers at various levels and wants a repeatable method for analysing athletes on video, including remotely, and for writing reports that athletes understand and act on.
-
The club or sporting association
Wants to build a technical database of its archers that grows over the years, with measurements taken the same way every time: that shows how each archer changes, and lets programming decisions rest on data rather than impressions.
Frequently asked questions
When will the manual be out?
The release date has not been set yet: when the manual comes out, I will announce it on this page. If you want to know straight away, you can also write to me at info@matteocampagna.com.
What format will I receive it in?
As a high-resolution PDF and as an ePub for e-readers. Both formats are DRM-free and can be downloaded without limits.
Do I need any special equipment to do the analysis?
No. The manual is built around the smartphone: any phone that records at 60 fps or above, an inexpensive tripod and natural light are enough. The recommended programs are free or inexpensive, because the method has to be within everyone's reach, from a single archer to a whole club.
Does it work for compound archers too?
Yes. The video analysis method and most metrics (posture, stability, alignment) are universal. Release-specific metrics come with separate notes for Olympic recurve and compound.
Tell me when the manual is out
I will announce it in the registry updates by email: at most one email a month, sent only in months when there is something new.
